ORP BLYSKAWICA

The Polish Naval destroyer ORP Blyskawica departed Gdynia Poland on Tuesday, August 30, 1939 at 2:15PM. Upon her departure from the Oksywie naval port in Gdynia, the ship started Operation Peking which directed selected Polish Navy ships to sail for England in case of war with Nazi Germany. This was the begining of a distinguished history of one of Poland's celebrated naval ships. On the bridge with Captain Wlodzimierz Kodrebski, was Petty Officer Stefan P. Wesolowski, the ships's signalist, who sent a message to the Polish Navy and Poland, SZCZESC BOZE KU CHWALE OJCZYZNY.

Today, the destroyer is an important part of the Polish Naval Museum in Gdynia and the only World War II ship still in commission. In order to maintain it's status as a national monument and symbol of Polish naval history, the ship is in need of constant maintenance and repairs. Donations for the preservation of the the ship should be addressed to;
